מוזיאון וילפריד ישראל שמח לארח שני אוצרים מהודו, טניה אברהם וג'ונס בני ג'ון לשיחה על המקום של שינויי זהות, מסורת וזיכרון באמנות עכשווית בהודו. אברהם וג'ון יספרו על פרויקטים שאצרו, על סצנות האמנות בהודו וכן על שיתופי פעולה שלהם עם האמן מידד אליהו.

במיצב סף שנוצר במיוחד לתערוכה זו ,מנסח אליהו מחדש את זהותו לאחר איסוף חומרים ביוגרפיים אישיים במסע הממושך שלו אל התרבות של דרום הודו. בתוך חלקי מבנים שבורים מניח אליהו אובייקטים טקסיים ואדריכליים יהודיים מקראלה, המצופים בפיגמנט אדום, ומונחים, כמנחת זיכרון שעדיין חי ליד הקיר. המיצב יעסוק בחורבן של התרבות שהייתה והלכה, אך גם כראייה של השבר כאפשרות לריפוי ויצירה מחדש.

האירוע בהנחיית שיר מלר-ימגוצ'י, אוצרת המוזיאון. יברך מר סנהיט בורגם, מנהל מרכז תרבות הודו, שגרירות הודו בישראל.

The Wilfrid Israel museum is happy to host Indian curators Tanya Abraham and Jones Benny John for a discussion about identity and tradition in transition in contemporary Indian Art. Abraham and John will talk about their curatorial practice and exhibitions and their collaborations with artist Meydad Eliyahu.

 The event will be facilitated by Shir Meller-Yamaguchi, the museum curator. Mr. Snehith Borgam. Director of Indian Cultural Center, Embassy of India in Israel, will give a short introduction.

Meydad Eliyahu is an artist, curator, researcher, and art educator based in Jerusalem.Eliyahu has founded artists initiatives which deal with culture and social change such as Kra- poetry and drawing artists collective, Katamona – art gallery and library, and he is part of HaMiffal – artists run cultural center.

Eliyahu's art features in art projects and exhibitions in Israel and abroad.

After visiting his father's homeland in Kerala, India, 5 years ago, Eliyahu began to research and create works inspired by the lost culture of the Malabari Jewish community. Among these are The Box of Documents and a public art project Red Crown Green Parrot in Jew town, Mattancherry, Kochi. Both were Kashi gallery collateral projects in the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India, 2016 and 2018.

Threshold exhibit is the first museum exhibition dedicated to Eliyahu's research.

Tanya Abraham is a writer, an author and an art curator based in Kochi, India. She is the founder of Kula, a public art platform and has been working as the creative director and curator of Kashi Art Gallery. She is also the founder of The Art Outreach Society (TAOS), a non profit which works with art education and creativity for mental health. Tanya works to bridge the gap between community and art, using the latter to propagate concerns of heritage and society. She is also the recipient of numerous awards including the South Indian Women’s Award for Art and Culture (2019), and the award for “Women Creating World Change” by the World Economic Forum, Birmingham, UK (2018).

Jones Benny John is an independent curator, writer and art-historian currently based in Kochi, India. He has studied at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore, and Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. His research interests revolve around transcendentalism in the visual arts, cross-cultural identities and their relationship to contemporary culture. He has curated mothertongues at Pepper House, Kochi, and has been contributing writer for STIRWorld magazine.
